Jimmy Butler Requests Trade from T-Wolves

Jimmy Butler Requests Trade from T-Wolves

The Athletic first reported Butler's trade request. The 29-year old All-Star, who is now slated to become a free agent next summer, can sign a max deal worth four years, $140.6 million. Instead, Butler reportedly has his sights on the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Clippers.

If Jimmy Butler gets his wish, there's a good chance he will soon be playing in NY.

When reached for comment regarding the news, Bernie Lee, Butler's agent, said he has "absolutely no comment on that". The two have had a close relationship since their shared days together in Chicago, and the Bulls traded Butler and the No. 16 overall pick to the Wolves on draft night in June 2017 for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the seventh overall draft pick that became Lauri Markkanen. Minnesota has showed no inclination to immediately honor the request. Thibodeau is famously, and relentlessly, competitive, and it is hard to envision him being willing to part with a player who embodies everything he values in a player and whom he traded Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the No. 7 pick in the 2017 National Basketball Association draft to acquire. Butler's bigger issues reportedly were more likely to involve his younger teammates, such as Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

One possible concern they face is trying to accommodate Butler's $19.84 million salary for the upcoming campaign, given that they're already set to pay a luxury tax this season.

In 59 games for the Timberwolves last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points per game on 47.4 per cent shooting.

Thibodeau had been planning to meet with Butler in Minnesota about the situation but instead traveled to LA to see him earlier this week.
