Kawhi Leonard of Toronto Raptors focused on this season, not future

Asked about his long-term goals, Leonard, who described himself as a "fun guy", said he plans to "play a long, healthy career; be happy wherever I land".

He was vocal about his displeasure with Raptors management following the trade and with Monday marking Media Day around the National Basketball Association, he will likely offer comments to Spurs media at some point as well. "I came here with an open mind". Once we are able to look past all the drama, realizing the potential of a Kyle Lowry-Kawhi Leonard one-two punch actually becomes quite an exciting prospect. "If you're looking toward the future, you're going to trip over the present".

Kawhi Leonard (left) and Danny Green (right) are joined by Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri following a press conference at the Toronto Raptors media day at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ont. on Monday September 24, 2018. Leonard gave a short response before admitting he couldn't even tell which reporter in the room had asked the question, which cracked him up.

Leonard can become an unrestricted National Basketball Association free agent next July, giving rise to concerns he'll just be a one-year rental for the Raptors.

"[I was] excited knowing I'm coming to a great city that loves basketball", Leonard said of the trade.

Leonard played only nine games for the Spurs last season because of a quad injury.

During his six seasons in San Antonio, Leonard was a two-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to winning an NBA championship and NBA Finals MVP in 2014.
