Kemi Adeosun: Nigeria minister resigns over forged certificate

Nigerians were thrown into shock after news broke that Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has resigned from her position. Daily Trust quoting anonymous sources stated that minister resigned.

Nigeria's Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun attends the 2018 Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Abuja, Nigeria July 13, 2018.

There has been no given reason on the decision of Adeosun stepping down from her position, although there has been an allegation of forging her NYSC discharge certificate.

In a statement signed by its Co-convener, Ezenwa Nwagwu, the group said it has, through the legal instrument of the Freedom Of Information Act, written to the relevant authorities to respond to the allegations against the duo. The President thanked the Minister for her services to the nation and wished her well in her future pursuits.

The minister of state for budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed, will oversee the finance ministry with immediate effect, the presidency said.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna, where she was born, and an MBA from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

However in a statement, she said she felt bound to resign after the investigation result became known.
