Lions Were Close To Trade With Patriots For Rob Gronkowski

He and the Patriots eventually worked out a plan for Gronkowski to stay in New England.

That was a scenario the tight end wasn't a fan of.

It appears the offseason trade rumors surrounding Rob Gronkowski were legitimate, as the New England Patriots almost sent their star tight end to the Detroit Lions before the NFL draft, league sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN. Schefter reports that Gronkowski threatened to retire upon learning of the talks and did not return any of the Lions' calls.

Gronkowski signed a contract extension with New England prior to the National Football League season starting a couple weeks ago.

He reportedly suffered the hamstring injury during a promotional video that wasn't team related.

Ahead of the 2018 season, the Patriots' reworked Gronkowski's contract, adding $4.3 million in incentives, including $1 million per-game roster bonuses.

Gordon did go through what seemed to be a considerable workout during the pregame festivities at Ford Field, though, working with both inactive talents and his share of Patriot regulars.

Josh Gordon came to the team last week for a fifth-round pick via the Cleveland Browns, but he's been anything but consistent when it comes to being at work every week.
