Mychal Kendricks to sign for Seattle Seahawks in lifeline for fallen linebacker

Mychal Kendricks is months away from being sentenced for insider trading, and the Seattle Seahawks need a linebacker. He was immediately released from Cleveland, where he had signed a one-year contract in the offseason. According to USA attorney William M. McSwain, Kendricks was able to profit due to the fact that he was receiving insider tips from TV writer Damilare Sonoiki.

The Seahawks announced Friday they have signed the former Eagles and Browns linebacker. The scheme reportedly earned Kendricks $1.2 million worth of profits.

Kendricks won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season before joining the Cleveland Browns, who released him last month after he was charged.

Kendricks was indicted on charges of insider trading back on August 29. Middle linebacker Bobby Wagner popped up on Thursday's practice report with a groin injury. He recorded 14 sacks, three interceptions and five fumble recoveries in that span.

Sonoiki had been working as a junior analyst at Goldman Sachs but left the financial field and has most recently been writing for TV shows.

Sonoiki received Eagles tickets and other items as kickbacks from Kendricks, prosecutors said. "I am committed to repaying all of the funds gained illegally and accept the consequences of my actions".
