Parole of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam, son-in-law extended by 3 days

Meanwhile, the Punjab home department has issued a notification announcing an extension in the parole already awarded to Sharif for additional five days - September 12 (4pm) to September 17 (4pm).

The Sharif family has said Begum Kulsoom Nawaz will be laid to rest on Friday in Jati Umra.

The three-time Premier, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar, now serving prison terms on corruption charges, were granted parole by the Punjab government to attend Begum Kulsoom's funeral.

Condolences continued to pour in for the Sharif family, upon Kulsoom Nawaz's demise.

Heavy contingent of police has been deployed at the Jati Umra to provide security to the Sharif family.

The PML-N president had also shared that his brother and niece were adamant that they won't submit a request for parole to be able to attend Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral.

Kulsoom, who had been battling with lymphoma (throat cancer) for over a year, breathed her last at the London's Harley Street Clinic.Sharif was in London with his cancer-stricken wife earlier this year when the anti-graft court had handed him a 10-year jail term and sentenced his presumed political heir, Maryam, to seven years in prison over the purchase of luxury flats in London in the 1990s.

Nawaz Sharif's sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz won't be attending the burial ceremony of her mother in Pakistan owing to legal complications. The sons were declared absconders by an accountability court hearing corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in lieu of Supreme Court's verdict in the Panama Papers case.

Speaking to media, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Mirza said Nawaz was dejected over losing his partner of 47 years.

Kulsoom's funeral prayers will be held at the Sharif Medical City in Jati Umra neighbourhood at 5 pm (local time) today.

Her body has been moved to a mortuary near the Regent Park mosque.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother.
