Peter King critical of Patriots over Josh Gordon trade

Peter King critical of Patriots over Josh Gordon trade

"You know, just try to acclimate himself to what the program is".

The Cleveland Browns finally parted ways with wide receiver Josh Gordon this week, and the team was reportedly frustrated that Gordon was not in football shape.

"I think Josh is a smart kid", he said.

The New England Patriots hold themselves to a certain standard, and it's not always pretty when expectations aren't met.

Belichick, who declined to speak about Gordon on Tuesday and Wednesday because he said the trade was not official, didn't want to speak about the circumstances that led to Gordon becoming a Patriot. It also doesn't hurt Brady and Co.'s case that the Lions by and large have looked unimpressive through the first two weeks of the season.

"I think everybody feels like this is a talented player", Belichick told's Scott Zolak this week. "That's any time you get new players, that's what you try to do". "He's worked hard. He's picked up a lot", Belichick said, adding "we'll see how it goes".

Gordon's trade from the Browns to the Patriots sparked a number of questions, including why the Pats gave up so little (a 2019 fifth-round pick) for the electric playmaker, plus a seventh-round pick in 2019.

But Belichick has been quiet on Gordon's struggles with substance abuse and the circumstances that landed him in New England. Gordon has not spoken to the media following his media, with the team willing him to dress alone in a spare room. "We'll see how it all shakes out".
