Trump enthusiastic at North Korea missile pledge, others doubtful

Pompeo said he had invited North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho to meet in NY next week where they are both due to attend the United Nations gathering of world leaders. We think this is what North Korea wants, so let's do that.

In addition to Pompeo's meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, "we have invited North Korean representatives to meet our Special Representative for North Korea, Stephen Biegun, in Vienna, Austria at the earliest opportunity", the statement continued.

Mr. Kim also promised to visit Seoul, the South Korean capital, which would make him the first North Korean leader to make such a trip.

"We have a lot of very good things going. They met, and we had some great responses". He said, "The era of no war has started".

The two leaders also agreed to pursue a bid to co-host the 2032 Olympic Games, and Moon said he expects Kim Jong-un to soon become the first North Korean leader to ever visit Seoul.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said U.S. relations with North Korea are making "tremendous progress" from the days before his presidency when the two countries appeared close to "going to war".

Of the just-concluded summit meeting between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Pompeo said the U.S. welcomed the leaders' "reaffirmation of the Singapore joint statement of complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, including the permanent dismantlement of all facilities at Yongbyon in the presence of United States and [international] inspectors".

Mr. Trump said they would wait and see what North Korea does next. Kim vowed to move toward denuclearization if the United States takes steps of its own.
