Trump touts "America First" agenda at U.N. General Assembly: Full speech

Trump touts

Hours before Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was due to speak from the same rostrum, Trump denounced the clerical regime in Tehran for sowing "chaos, death and destruction" as he defended his decision to ditch an internationally brokered nuclear deal four months ago. On Tuesday, however, it was a different story, with Trump praising the leader for his good faith efforts to denuclearize.

Trump said America's economy is booming like never before and since his election, the USA has added United States dollars 10 trillion in wealth.

"Every solution to the humanitarian crisis in Syria must also include a strategy to address the brutal regime which has fueled and financed it: the corrupt dictatorship in Iran", Mr Trump said in NY. "The do not respect their neighbors or borders, or the sovereign rights of nations".

UNITED NATIONS President Donald Trump got some laughter when he addressed world leaders today. He was unapologetic about his decisions to engage with the erstwhile pariah North Korea, remove the USA from the global Iran nuclear accord and object to United Nations programs he believes are contrary to American interests. Trump noted that since sanctions had been lifted, Iran had increased its military budget by almost 40 percent.

The president also spent time lamenting the situation in Venezuela, one he blamed largely on socialism.

"America is governed by Americans", he said.

He announced additional sanctions that would target Venezuelan officials and close allies of Maduro.

This time around, Trump heralded his own diplomacy on North Korea including a historic summit in June with Kim, saying he has worked to "replace the specter of conflict with a bold and new push for peace".

While Trump spoke in sour terms about current relations with Iran, he spoke glowingly of his budding friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"I would like to thank Chairman Kim for his courage and for the steps he has taken". On the United Nations, he affirmed his commitment to make the Organization more effective and accountable.

He added that more work needed to be done before North Korea fully dismantled its nuclear capabilities. He gave special thanks to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and also to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jingping.

If there is anything positive coming out of Trump's speech, and that is a big if, than it may be that other democratic members of the worldwide community should now have realized that, until this president leaves the White House, they need to try to fill the vacuum left by a retreating US.

Trump's administration is pushing allies to cut imports of Iranian oil to zero as Washington prepares to restore sanctions on Iran's oil sales in November. America will never apologize for protecting its citizens.

Human Rights First said Mr. Trump's rejection of the migration initiative was "yet another indication that this administration will not lead internationally when it comes to solving hard, transnational problems".

Trump began his speech to the global body by talking about the "extraordinary progress" made under his administration.

Trump caused a moment of levity when he praised what his administration had accomplished as nearly unmatched.

President Donald Trump claimed that his administration "has accomplished more than nearly any administration in the history of our country", drawing laughter from an audience at the United Nations on Tuesday. "Didn't expect that reaction, but that's OK".

Mr Trump has long claimed that his predecessors' weak leadership prompted other nations "to laugh" at the US. "We defend many of these nations for nothing, and then they take advantage of us by giving us high oil prices". The next round of USA sanctions will kick in in early November, adding to the animosity between Washington and Tehran. Migration should not be governed by an worldwide body unaccountable to citizens.

Previous year at the General Assembly, Trump laid out his vision for the world on the premise that strong, independent nations promote security, prosperity, and peace for themselves and for the world. The United States will always choose independence and cooperation over global governance, control and domination, he said. Write to us in the Comments section, and visit our Facebook page.
