Who won Canelo vs GGG's first fight?

Golovkin beat Vanes Martirosyan as a replacement opponent on May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena.

This Saturday is the night boxing fans have been waiting for!

Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin is regarded as one of the most fearsome fighters in world boxing, racking up an unbeaten record boasting 34 knockouts in 39 professional bouts.

The pair first met last September and after twelve rounds of exciting back and forth action the fight went to the judges scorecards for decision.

WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin weighed in first at 159.6 pounds, then challenger Canelo Alvarez weighed 159.4 pounds at their weigh-in on Friday in Las Vegas.

Scores of 114-114 and 115-113 in Golovkin's favour appeared to fairly reflect the narrow margin between the two men - but ringside judge Adelaide Byrd's freakish scorecard, ruling in favour of Canelo by 118-110, left many observers baffled.

Only a freak scorecard from judge Adalaide Byrd, who triggered uproar after ruling it 118-110 Alvarez, denied Golovkin a victory.

Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 knockouts) is a slight favorite in the rematch, much as he was in the first fight.

A positive test by Alvarez for clenbuterol forced the rematch to be postponed from May.

Regardless, he was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission before being handed a six-month ban, backdated from February, forcing him to pull out of the agreed rematch with Golovkin.

Canelo has contended that the failed drugs test was due to contaminated meat he ingested by accident in his home country of Mexico.

"If Canelo gives me a chance and fights like he claims he will, I will knock him out", Golovkin said.

A relaxed-looking Golovkin later took a verbal jab at his Mexican rival after the face-off.
