AC Milan - Match Report & Highlights

Inter's captain and talisman popped up with the crucial header in injury time to beat their city rivals AC Milan 1-0 in Sunday night's hotly anticipated derby.

"Just like us, the Rossoneri had many players who were called up for global duty".

Mauro Icardi scored a 92nd-minute victor as Inter Milan recorded a 1-0 victory over AC Milan in the Milan derby at San Siro on Sunday night.

The game appeared to be petering out into a goalless draw, but Donnaruma came and failed to claim a speculative right-wing cross from Vecino, and Icardi headed into the unguarded net to score his fourth league goal of the campaign and spark jubilant scenes among the Inter fans in the stands.

Inter move up to third with the victory - with AC Milan remaining 12th.

Nominal home side Inter looked the more likely to find a breakthrough in the first half, with Ivan Perisic seeing a header palmed away by Donnarumma and Stefan de Vrij striking the crossbar with a twisting volley.

The Nerazzurri had to wait until the second minute of stoppage time to break the deadlock but Icardi's close-range finish from Matias Vecino's cross extended Inter's winning league run to five games.

Milan thought they had scored when Musacchio managed to turn the ball in at the far post just before half-time but the linesman flagged and replays showed he was offside when Romagnoli flicked the ball on.

Milan had a super chance to take the lead 10 minutes from time when Suso found space inside the Inter box, but the Spaniard could not find a route past Samir Handanovic.

Inter had the ball in the back of the net after 12 minutes, with Icardi volleying home but the goal was chalked off for offside.

Inter return after the worldwide break with two huge games, tonight's clash with their arch rivals, and then a trip to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
