Google Pixel apps to have external microphones support

It is thought that with this software update, other camera features will also come to older Pixel phones - something that can happen when you are relying as much on the software behind the cameras as well as the lenses.

The stock camera app on Pixel phones only supports the use of the built-in microphone while recording videos. It appears the same feature is no longer a Pixel Buds exclusive, and has now rolled out to all headphones offering Google Assistant integration. So to achieve better sounding videos, users needed third-party camera apps.

With the new update, users will now be able to take advantage of Google's computational photography to record high quality videos while capturing professional quality audio at the same time.

Some good news for those looking to buy the new Pixel 3 smartphone from Google, or those who already own the previous ones.

"Google Translate is available on all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones", where it used to say "Google Translate on Google Pixel Buds is only available on Pixel phones", the report noted.

Notably, while the support page does not give a list of the headphones that support Google Assistant, based on what we know Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II, Sony 1000XM2, JBL Everest 110GA, OnePlus Bullets and Sony WI-1000X are some of the device that feature support for the company's virtual assistant.

"Hi, folks - Isaac here from the Pixel Camera engineering team. I hope you all enjoy the update", this was highlighted on the Google Forum. People can now pre-order the Google Pixel 3 with a price starting at $799.
