Jaguars acquire RB Hyde from Browns in trade for draft pick

The first major trade of the National Football League season just happened.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded for Cleveland running back Carlos Hyde on Friday, adding a proven starter while Leonard Fournette progresses slowly from a strained right hamstring.

Johnson will return to his role of 2017, when he topped 1,000 yards rushing and receiving and led the Browns in touchdowns. The Browns' decision to move Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars opens the door for electrifying rookie Nick Chubb, who's flashed major upside in limited action this season.

The Browns signed Hyde this offseason to a three-year, $15.25 million contract as a free agent from San Francisco. So will Duke Johnson.'s; the Browns' best playmaker from a year ago had been lost in a trio of backs that proved to be one too many. The offense has hit a wall, Hyde was averaging 3.4 yards per carry, and it was time for Chubb to get more carries and more snaps, period.

The running back workload in Cleveland has been a source of frustration for just about everyone all season.

Chubb's playing time and carries both will increase, which has to be of interest to fantasy owners as well as Browns fans.

Following Cleveland's 38-14 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, head coach Hue Jackson admitted they needed to get Chubb the ball more. The talented former 49'er will get more looks in Jacksonville.
