President Trump and pastor Andrew Brunson met at Oval Office

In the remarks, Mr. Trump said that he feels to be honored to have the company of Brunson is White House and he also thanked the members of Cabinet and the lawmakers for their help in getting Brunson Released.

Trump said he and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke about Brunson's situation "at least once a day". He faced up to 35 years in jail if convicted of all the charges against him.

Freed North Carolina pastor Andrew Brunson fell to one knee in the Oval Office and placed his hand on President Donald Trump's shoulder in prayer before asking God to provide Trump "supernatural wisdom to accomplish all the plans you have for this country and for him".

A Turkish court on Friday convicted Brunson of having links to terrorism and sentenced him to just over three years in prison, but released the 50-year-old evangelical pastor because he had already spent almost two years in detention.

"We think this president needs a lot of prayer", he said.

After much uncertainty and multiple trials, an American pastor detained in Turkey for two years is beginning to re-adjust to life back in the U.S. Pastor Andrew Brunson and his wife, Norine, told "CBS This Morning" they will be staying put in the U.S. for now.

Brunson's homecoming amounts to a diplomatic - and possibly political - win for Trump and his evangelical base. A Turkish court on Friday convicted Brunson of only the terrorism charges, and the government then freed the evangelical pastor to return home.

Trump tells Brunson "we've been negotiating long and hard" for his release and that "we do not pay ransom in this country". He met with Trump in the Oval Office on Saturday, when Trump doubled down on his denials that any deal with struck with foreign officials, claiming the U.S.

"Fill him with your wisdom and strength and perseverance", Brunson asked. I ask that you protect him from slander from enemies, from those who would undermine. "I ask that you give him wisdom in how to lead this country into righteousness".

Rev. Brunson, who had been held without charges for a year, was convicted October 12 on a charge of aiding terrorism and sentenced to time served. "And we bless him". Trump had also thanked the Turkish President Erdogan for releasing Brunson and he also seemed to be hopeful that this release of Brunson would be a start of good positive relations between both countries.

"I know from dealing with the consulate [in Turkey]", Brunson said, "that they weren't only engaging for me, that they're engaging for everyone there". Make him be a great blessing to our country.

They were "shocked, because we had spent twenty-three years working very openly, talking people about Jesus, helping refugees, things like these". He had resisted earlier USA demands that Brunson be released. It was my wife really who got me through that time.
