Qualcomm introduces 11nm Snapdragon 675 with new CPU

Finally, he touched upon the newly launched Snapdragon 675 SoC to confirm that Xiaomi is looking to launch a device powered by the new SoC soon.

Besides enhancements in gaming, camera and AI performance, the 675 features in improvements in other major areas, as well. It supports up to 8GB of RAM and has Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU for gaming. The Snapdragon 670 arrived in August, promising enhanced AI performance and the usual performance improvements. The Snapdragon 670 and 710 featured third-gen Kryo 360 cores, but the Snapdragon 675 is the first to offer the fourth-generation Kryo 460 platform. The aim? A chipset optimized for mobile gaming.

The new Snapdragon 675 will offer smoother gameplay with software optimizations. In a further effort to bring high-end gaming to the mid-range, the chip maker is working with games and game engines like Unity and Unreal to optimize for 600-series chipsets. To do so, the Snapdragon 675 uses a Spectra 250L image signal processor to support a triple camera - one that can seamlessly switch between telephoto, wide angle and super-wide angle for a 5x optical zoom - on either side of a phone. Also new here is native support for portrait mode (bokeh) with HDR, as well as limitless 720p slow-motion video capture at a whopping 480 fps - a first for a Snapdragon 600-tier platform. The company claims that the Snapdragon 675 SoC, compared to the Snapdragon 670, offers 30 percent faster game launch time, 35 percent faster Web browsing, and 20 percent faster music launch.

The Snapdragon 675 is touted to deliver up to a 50% uptick in AI applications, with Qualcomm focusing on key use cases: scene and object detection, image style transfer, portrait relighting, face unlock, payment security, and voice.

There's a Snapdragon X12 modem in the Snapdragon 675 that offers support for download speeds up to 600Mbps, 256 QAM, and up to 3x carrier aggregation. Quick Charge 4+ charges a battery from 0% to 50% in just 15 minutes, and the Snapdragon 675 works with Qualcomm's Aqstic and aptX audio technologies.

Qualcomm says that we should begin seeing the Snapdragon 675 in consumer devices in Q1 2019, so stay tuned.
