Roman Reigns diagnosed with leukemia, taking leave from WWE

"When I was 22-years-old I was diagnosed with this", he said.

Tonight's Monday Night Raw opened in shocking and sad fashion, as Roman Reigns revealed his battle with leukaemia. "I will be back, and you will see me very very soon".

He explained that this led to a very hard period of his life, with a baby on the way and his football career over.

Reigns laid the title in the middle of the ring and walked back up the ramp, where his brothers-in-arms Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins met him and gave him a hug.

Reigns said because of the diagnosis, he's unable to fulfill his duties as champion and must relinquish the WWE Universal Title.

Anoa'i, 33, played college football for Georgia Tech and attempted to play for both the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars. "Because after I'm done whooping leukemia's ass once again I'm coming back home".

"But do you know who gave me a chance?"

Roman Reigns kicked off Monday Night Raw this week, and he said that he's been telling the fans that he's going to be a fighting champion, but that's a lie.

The press release from WWE notes that Roman made his battle with leukemia public "in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease".

The support and love he will surely receive from the WWE community will help keep him strong during this pressing time. He ended the segment by announcing that he would beat leukemia and return to WWE.

"'Courage - strength in the face of pain or grief.' You have given us your everything including a courageously vulnerable moment", wrote John Cena.
