"She never did a bad thing in her life".

Tara said her daughter "made a mistake".

Lee Furlong, 23, was arrested alongside Canadian Brittney Schneider, at a guest house in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. A spokesperson says provisions in Canada's Privacy Act prevents Global Affairs from disclosing any further information.

Polic‌‌e, who found an empty spray can at the site, said that both showed signs of intoxication during the graffiti episode.

Municipal cleaners have since attempted to scrub off the graffiti.

Police Major Anon Cherdchutrakulthong told Reuters that the pair had both admitted to the crime.

Because the whole wall is a registered landmark, authorities were offended when they were allegedly caught on camera.

Police launched a manhunt and Furlong, as well as Canadian woman Brittney Schneider, 23, who was with him at the time and also sprayed "B" on the wall, were arrested Thursday afternoon.

"She said she's ashamed of herself", Schneider said.

The CBC reports bail money has been sent to Thailand by Schneider's mother but she will have to stay in Thailand until she goes to trial.

In addition to 10 years in jail, police said, the young tourists could face fines of up to one million baht, or $40,035 Cdn.
