At Least 2 Dead In Building Collapse At Amazon Warehouse In Baltimore

If it turns out that it was, in fact, a tornado that touched down, the two Amazon Fulfillment Center deaths would be the first tornado-related deaths to be experienced in Maryland since 2002, according to the Sun.

A company official says a second person is dead after part of an Amazon distribution warehouse collapsed amid severe weather in Baltimore. Officials say a 50-foot wall at the warehouse collapsed.

Baltimore City Fire Department Chief Roman Clark said that a 15m wall collapsed at the facility after a storm descended on the city, according to the Baltimore Sun. Search crews worked hours that night and later found the unaccounted for person under rubble before they were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead Saturday morning. A second person was also killed as a result of this incident.

Officials said there weren't any other reports of people missing. "Thank you to the emergency response teams who have been working through the night. The safety of our employees and contractors is our top priority and at this time the building remains closed", Lighty said in an email. "Our thoughts go out to all families impacted by this evening's severe weather".

The National Weather Service had earlier warned of thunderstorms in the area, with some producing gusty winds and heavy rain. "The whole side (of the building) was just dropping".
