China's stealth fighter J-20 flaunts missile payload: Should India be anxious?

According to experts, the four internally mounted missiles are medium-range, radar-guided air-to-air missiles, while two smaller missiles mounted outside the weapon bays of the J-20 are infra-red-guided "heat-seeking" missiles for aerial combat.

The Global Times, an official organ of the ruling Chinese Communist Party, reported that audible "wow " s could be heard among spectators as the aircraft flew over and said experts ranked its capabilities as superior to the US -built F-22 and F-35 jets.

Sunday, the J-20s showed off that capability in what state-run Xinhua news service described as a surprise "stunning aerial display" on the final day of the six-day Airshow China, where the PLA displays and markets its military hardware.

The flight coincided with the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese air force.

"The no-show of Chinese built-engines on the J-20 indicates that China is still having trouble mastering leading-edge jet engine technology", said Peter Layton, a former Australian military officer and now fellow at the Griffith Asia Institute.

While the Chinese stealth fighter has participated in combat training exercises, the J-20, unlike its American counterparts, has never been deployed in actual combat.

First, a strategic force will be established by 2020. Conventional aircraft like the SU-30MKI carry their weapons externally on the wings or fuselage, increasing the aircraft's radar signature and also worsening in-flight drag.

Deals worth more than 21.2 billion USA dollars have been signed at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China).

A Chinese Chengdu J-20 fifth-generation stealth fighters fly at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, November 11.

China's largest airshow featured a show of force Sunday, as the country showed off the missiles in its advanced J-20 stealth fighter jet during a flyover.
