The eliminated couple usually appear on BBC2's It Takes Two for an exit interview, but Dowden appeared alone.

Dowden said being on the BBC One competition was a dream job and despite being eliminated she was a "glass is always half full" type of person.

He eventually got the chop after landing in the dance-off with cricketer Graeme Swann and his professional partner Oti Mabuse.

"We did some wonderful performances - the first 10 of the series, my first 10!"

He wrote: "I should of have expressed my gratitude more often".

"And I just think that as I said before, everything I have done on this show is because of Amy".

Danny and Amy at the Pride of Britain Awards in October.

"It's a dream job and I'm just very lucky to have had the opportunity - and I got further than previous year!"

However, Darcey Bussell chose to save Graeme and Oti, saying: "I wish you didn't put me in this position, I am not enjoying this at all".

'I can only look as good as her dancing and you know, she is great, and I hope that her career goes up and onwards as she deserves'.

The pair went into Saturday's show involved in controversy after claims of a nasty backstage bust up.

But Dowden said on Friday: "Things did get a little bit intense the other day in rehearsals". You know nothing about our personal lives!

Danny added: "The only reason I'm here this far is because of Amy". That's something I will never forget. You know you don't get to see people with their dance partners through the week, only if they're in the next studio to you. It's probably the best dancing we've done, the last couple days, since I've been on the show.

Both couples then performed their routines again, with Graeme and Oti doing their Salsa to Follow The Leader by Soca Boys whilst Danny and Amy performed their Samba to Feels Like Home by Sigala. "Why would I argue with a Welsh woman?"

"Just out of curiosity I tried them on last week and I had an inch to spare in them".

Find out if they can avoid the dance-off for another week in Sunday night's "Strictly" results show, airing at 7.50pm on BBC One.
