Dead brothel owner elected to legislative seat

In a weird and unusual set of circumstance, a Republican candidate has been elected to the state assembly of Nevada - despite having died last month.

A dead brothel owner and reality TV star has won by a landslide to be elected to Nevada's state legislature.

After Hof won the June nominating contest for the state Assembly seat, some evangelicals in his district said they had voted for him because they believed he would clean up politics and not be beholden to special-interest groups and their money. Each commissioner will choose one candidate before meeting to decide on a final appointee. That's got to hurt bad, hasn't it?

The Nevada Independent has called the Assembly District 36 race for deceased Republican brothel owner Dennis Hof.

Hof, 72, was found dead by porn actor Ron Jeremy on October 16 at the Love Ranch, one of the brothels Hof owned in Nevada. As a result, Nevada Republicans encouraged people to vote for him anyway.

It was too late to remove his name from the ballot paper, where Hof stood for the Nevada State Assembly - and voters selected him, despite widespread coverage of his death.

Well, you know what they say, you can't keep a good man down.

He also starred in the HBO adult reality series Cathouse and wrote a book titled The Art of the Pimp, akin to Trump's book The Art of the Deal.

Hof ran for office in 2016 as a Libertarian but lost, and this year he ran as a Republican and earned backing from Trump associate Roger Stone and anti-tax-increase advocate Grover Norquist.

The strip club owner, who ran five legal brothels in Nevada, during his campaign, dubbed himself the "Trump from Pahrump" in reference to the town where he lived in Nevada.

A Republican will be appointed to the seat by county officials, according to The Associated Press.

"There are a lot of Republicans who were uncomfortable voting for Dennis because of the nature of his business, and they now know that he is not the one who will be serving", campaign manager Chuck Muth said in a statement to Reuters. A Republican will be tapped to serve in his place.
