Flags, injuries, bad ‘D’ hurt Skins in 38-14 loss to Falcons

Signed to a five-year, $40 million contract in the offseason, Richardson will finish his first season in Washington with 20 receptions for 262 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Jones was back in the end zone where he belongs, and the Atlanta Falcons looked like the team they were predicted to be in a 38-14 blowout of the Washington Redskins on Sunday that extended their winning streak to three games.

Head coach Jay Gruden had some bad news for the Washington faithful today, as he announced that multiple key players will all undergo surgery and be out for the season, including perennial Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff.

If Atlanta loses against the Redskins, there might not be much hope for them the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan completed 26 of 38 passes for 350 yards and four touchdowns.

"I think halfway through we were a better football team than we were at the start, and we have to keep it trending in that direction", Ryan said after Sunday's game.

As it is, Washington already was facing injury issues along its line: Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams missed the game against Atlanta after having surgery on his dislocated right thumb and could be out another two or three weeks.

Tevin Coleman runs on the Redskins.

"It wasn't the preparation, just the executing", Washington safety D.J. Swearinger said.

Swearinger and other players blamed officials for part of the Redskins' disciplinary trouble that added up to 10 penalties for 147 yards. But he only ran nine times for a measly 17 yards through the opening two quarters, when Washington's best gain was 22 on a scramble by quarterback Alex Smith. Richardson has been playing through shoulder and knee injuries. Dunbar left twice with leg injuries.

The Falcons iced the win over the Redskins by holding the ball for 10 minutes in the fourth quarter, when Washington didn't score.

Gruden said that starting slot receiver Jamison Crowder, who's missed four games with an ankle injury, might practice Wednesday.

The Redskins travel to Tampa Bay next week to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
