Fossil Sport puts latest Wear 3100 chip in colorful smartwatch

Fossil's first smartwatch based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform was launched today as the Fossil Sport, boasting an ultra-lightweight design and a wide range of color choices, some of which are now available for purchase online from the watchmaker's official website.

The Fossil Sport Smartwatch comes is two sizes: 41- and 43mm.

With that processor, Fossil says that we can expect a 24 hour lifespan from the Sport's 350mAh battery, which is larger than some previous smartwatch models the company has offered.

The array of sensors included with the Fossil Sport Smartwatch includes Global Positioning System, heart rate, NFC, altimeter, gyroscope, accelerometer, and ambient light. Overall, it's a more preppy style than the just-reviewed Fossil Q Explorist HR and Fossil Q Venture HR. The fitness-oriented Wear OS device will run the latest version of Wear OS with a revamped fitness and navigation UI. The recently announced Wear OS Spotify app will also, Fossil says, be pre-loaded onto the watch for use straight out of the box as will personal safety app Noonlight. Customization is the name of the game here, as the Fossil Sport is launching in six colors with what Fossil describes as "endless" strap options. Just where it ranks among the long list of Wear watches remains to be seen.
