Guardiola: It is not decisive to be top of Premier League table

"He is a top player but still he is so young to be considered the world's best", said Guardiola when asked to rank Sterling among the game's current leading players. "But still he is so young to consider among the world's best players", the coach said.

"He is in incredible form, he is sharp, fast, clever, fighting, decisive, he can play both sides and can play in the middle and receive the ball between the lines and commit the centre-backs with a lot of aggressiveness".

"I thought it was a great team performance".

"Still hes loses simple balls, like the Tottenham game when he made an wonderful assist in the first few minutes but then lost a lot of balls".

The visitors initially improved after the break, with James Ward-Prowse and Ings forcing Ederson into three vital saves between them.

"Of course, his quality one against one is incredible, and he had an incredible game".

Sterling is entering the final 18 months of his contract with sources telling ESPN FC that the former Liverpool forward has verbally agreed a new deal.

Guardiola claimed the Sterling he encountered in his first season at City would look for excuses not to shoot but he believes the England forward is now going from strength to strength and, at 23, still has huge scope for improvement.

"Not just Raheem, everybody".

"The key is to keep our concentration for as long as we can, and they are human, so they will make mistakes too".

"Mikel [Arteta] insists a lot of many things and everybody is there to help the guys be better".

Sterling has now scored or assisted eight goals in his 12 appearances this season with the strikes against Southampton his third and fourth this campaign.

Having said that, Southampton aren't the first side - nor will they be the last - to be completely and utterly embarrassed by Guardiola's City. "That was our feeling", he said.

City restored its three-goal cushion on the stroke of halftime with Aguero taking advantage of a mistake by Cedric Soares and crossing for Sterling to score his fifth league goal of the season. It doesn't matter if you miss it.

One goal became two six minutes later as the division's highest scorers went through the gears, with Aguero tapping in at the back post for his landmark 150th Premier League goal following some good work from Sterling.

"For the second goal he arrived until the keeper".

"I tried to score in the game, but the whole team was really strong".
