Horn 'humbled' by Thomas' TD celebration

Horn 'humbled' by Thomas' TD celebration

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas' touchdown celebration against the Los Angeles Rams lit up social media Sunday - but it cost him.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas completed a 72-yard touchdown during his side's 45-35 victory over the LA Rams last night, but it is his celebration that has everyone talking.

Just like Horn all those years ago, Thomas' antics drew a 15-yard penalty from officials as well as the ire of his coach.

Horn said he texted Thomas and "thanked him for doing what most athletes in his position would never do". In a move straight out of the early 2000s, Thomas ran to the goal post and revealed a flip phone that he had hidden before the start of the game and pretended to make a call. He said, "I watched the YouTube video before the game". Thomas hadn't talked to Horn about the celebration prior to the game. "But overall, to be able to hold him and not allow him to really wreck this game was big for us".

Sunday was a flawless example of the power an attention-grabbing stunt can have as "Joe Horn" who last played an National Football League game in 2007 - was featured in more than 35,000 tweets less than an hour after the final whistle.

In case you missed it, here's a look at Thomas' touchdown celebration, which paid homage to former Saints wideout Joe Horn, courtesy of Jordan Heck.

Horn, now 46, told Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune he was working out by himself in a gym in MS when he witnessed Thomas' tribute. "I felt had an opportunity to make it happen, put the game away and make the call".
