Maurizio Sarri praises Ross Barkley for reviving Chelsea career

Freezing fog in Borisov contributed to an underwhelming display. The best thing about this evening was the result.

"Andre has come in and been very good as well, and our left-back (Digne) played for Barcelona".

"I think we are a lot more positive than maybe we have been and players like Richarlison are the reason why you think you can go there and get something". There was all the conditions to play very badly, for the cold, for the opponents, for the pitch, for everything.

"I am surprised at how quickly he has adapted if I think back to the first month, but not if I think of the last two months".

But as Chelsea grew more assured, the hosts retreated, and early in the second half Emerson's cross allowed Giroud to nod the ball in at the near post, his first goal since May.

Dmitri Baga had hit the post in the first half from long range and Nikolai Signevich followed sit on the hour mark.

Fit-again Eden Hazard played 62 minutes in Thursday's game and could be in contention to start.

Hazard had been due to be off by then and Sarri was gesticulating wildly in his technical area, apparently towards the Belgian.

The France worldwide headed Emerson's cross in at the near post early in the second period to maintain the Blues' 100% Group L record.

"But you always need to keep working hard in training and keep believing, keep the faith".

Maurizio Sarri has an enviable record and even managed to oversee this victory while suffering from a fever, presumably the same illness that befell Cesc Fàbregas and ruled him out of this game. "He's a very important player for us, he's very useful for the team but I know very well that strikers want to score, and so for his confidence it's very important".

The England global has become a regular under Sarri, scoring three goals in his last five Chelsea appearances.
