Michael Avenatti taken into Los Angeles police custody

Avenatti, a lawyer for Trump's alleged ex-mistress, was arrested by the LAPD on suspicion of domestic violence Wednesday.

It isn't yet clear exactly what happened during the alleged assault, but TMZ reports that his wife ran into the street to call 911, shouting back at the house, "I can't believe you did this to me". He screamed repeatedly, "She hit me first".

TMZ says one witness said her face was swollen and bruised.

Avenatti was booked on a felony domestic violence charge, said LAPD.

TMZ reported that the two had been sharing an apartment, but Avenatti had kicked the woman out after a break-up. Any accusations to the contrary are fabricated and meant to do harm to my reputation.

Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti will not appear at a pair of Vermont fundraisers after all because he's in jail. He added he's looking forward to the investigation and is confident he'll be "fully exonerated." .

Following his representation of Julie Swetnick for her allegations against Kavanaugh, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said in October that he was referring Avenatti and Swetnick to the Justice Department.

'This article is not true as it pertains to my client. "Ms. Storie-Avenatti was not subject to any such incident".

The decision to cancel the events was made "almost immediately after the news broke", he said.

"You know my character, you know me as a man", Mr. Avenatti said, also saying that "I am not going to be intimidated" from his work.

After she was escorted upstairs by security, Avenatti arrived and tried to get into the building - but was denied access to the elevator by security.
