Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Jimmy Butler to 76ers

Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Jimmy Butler to 76ers

The full trade, per reports: The Sixers get Butler and injured second-year center Justin Patton in exchange for Saric, Covington, veteran Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round pick.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Butler and the 76ers are expected to reach a deal on a long-term contract in the summer. The Marquette product is a four-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA selection and four-time All-Defensive Team selection. He had reportedly listed the NY teams, along with the Clippers among his preferred destinations after requesting a trade.

The Timberwolves are granting disgruntled Jimmy Butler his trade request after all. The Sixers will weigh Butler's physical condition and how he fits with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but they didn't give up such significant assets believing that this would be a rental situation.

Butler has two years remaining on the five-year, $92 million deal he signed with the Bulls in 2015.

He sat out the Timberwolves' game against the Jazz on Wednesday with no guarantee he would play for Minnesota again, The Athletic reported at the time.

The package is pretty surprising considering the reported deal that almost brought Butler to Miami.
