Prima Games is Shutting Down in 2019

The long-running company, which has run for 28 years and even acquired competitor Brady Games along the way, will be closing all of its offices in Spring 2019. There are many potential reasons as to why Prima Games is having to shut down, but the rise of the internet and "live" games are both sure to have played a hand in its demise.

Prima Games, the publishing company that has printed video game strategy guides since it was founded in 1990, is shutting down, parent company DK said yesterday.

Reported initially on EGM Now, the news was confirmed by the Dorling Kindersley division of Penguin Random House. According to PublishersLunch, "there are approximately 40 people from Prima on LinkedIn".

As it stands, Prima Games will no longer be working on any new material, with staff now working on the completion of all projects that have already been commissioned.

Prima Games will officially close its doors in the Spring of 2019.

The company's Roseville office will close in mid-November, while the Indianapolis branch will remain open until March 2019 to "publish the remaining program".

I'll also never forget the days of my youth where I would grab a guide to help navigate my way through some of the more obtuse N64 games.

The news comes via Publisher's Lunch, who report that DK games blames a "significant decline in the video game guide sector" for the closure.

Pour one out for Prima Games.
