Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized After Falling, Fracturing 3 Ribs

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalised after breaking three ribs in a fall in her office, the court said Thursday. But she later reported experiencing some discomfort, and was admitted to George Washington University Hospital "for observation and treatment".

The court's oldest justice fell Wednesday evening, the court said.

Ginsburg broke two ribs in a fall in 2012.

Ginsburg has persevered on the bench despite several health issues, including scares from both colon and pancreatic cancer and a heart procedure in which she received a stent in her right coronary artery.

More details to follow ...

It's too early for any word on Justice Ginsburg's path to recovery just yet - but definitely makes ya think.

It means Ms Ginsburg will not be present for Thursday's investiture of new Supreme Court judge Brett Kavanaugh, whose appointment led to protests following allegations of sexual misconduct.

She was appointed to the court by former president Bill Clinton in 1993. President Donald Trump and new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker were on hand. She also was hospitalized after a bad reaction to medicine in 2009.

In the 2018 midterm elections, Republicans won seats in the U.S. Senate, making future Supreme Court confirmation battles easier.

"I'm now 85", she told CNN.
