An emotional witness told local broadcaster KABC-TV the gunman appeared to be shooting at random. The deputy was said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Another witness said he saw a security guard being shot as well as a female cashier, before he also fled.

"There was just young poeple, 18, 19, 20, just having a great time, and this maniac came in and started shooting people for no reason at all".

"It was chaos, people jumping out of windows, jumping over gates, just trying to get out", one man said. "It still feels like I didn't do what I should have done".

Police are responding to reports of a mass shooting at bar in Thousand Oaks, California. Police are saying they do not have the person responsible in custody. Law enforcement and emergency crews were flooding the scene. "Multiple ambulances requested", the department wrote on Twitter.
