Xiaomi launches in United Kingdom with new Mi 8 Pro

Xiaomi launches in United Kingdom with new Mi 8 Pro

Ahead of their launch in Malaysia tomorrow, Xiaomi has officially revealed the price of their two latest smartphones for our market, the Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite.

The front of the phone is less striking, with a very familiar look - meaning a relatively wide notch and a small chin at the bottom of the phone, like nearly every other Android phone to launch this year.

If this company wanted to set an impression of what it considers standard Android fare, it has done a good job: notched, tall displays spanning roughly 6.2 inches with Qualcomm Snapdragon power, glossy glass builds, dual rear cameras and a good dose of MIUI.

As for video, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro's dual-lens camera can shoot up to 4K resolution footage.

It packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage but there's no microSD card slot for expanding storage.

The battery is 3,000mAh, which is less than that on the OnePlus 6T. The two new phones will become the latest addition to the Mi 8 family here alongside the titular model which was launched in Malaysia back in August.

All are features found on rival high-end phones that can cost more than £700, but Xiaomi is to sell the Mi 8 Pro starting at £499, as part of a strategy it calls "honest pricing". It comes in Transparent Titanium color and will be available through Three, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse, Currys PC World, Very, Mobile Phones Direct, Katana and Mi.com.

'Xiaomi's highly anticipated arrival in the United Kingdom therefore threatens to put a big cat amongst the pigeons - by combining top tier design and performance with relatively modest pricing, it poses a real threat to the market.

'Thursday's launch marks the arrival of a significant new kid on the block, and there is no doubt that in finally coming to the UK, Xiaomi means business'.

Xiaomi also announced it will open an official Mi Store on November 18 at London's Westfield shopping centre in White City, having opened in Paris earlier this year.
