Fallout creators and Obsidian reveal new game The Outer Worlds

It's a first-person shooter with clear RPG elements set in a dystopian universe where massive corporations with names like Spacer's Choice and Auntie Cleo's have taken over entire planets. Look for it sometime in the next year, as it's confirmed to release in "calendar 2019". Though numerous games revealed at the event were smaller indie titles or "AA" games, they made up for their lower budgets with unique settings, intriguing gameplay mechanics, and pure passion on the part of the developers speaking about them.

This is the first trailer for The Outer Worlds, a brand-new first-person RPG from Obsidian and Private Division.

The new game is still very much a secret, with the developers only choosing, so far, to reveal two retro advertisements for fake products. Have a look at the trailer below to get a taste of what you can expect from The Outer Worlds.

KitGuru Says: The Outer Worlds isn't quite what I expected, but the humour hooked me in and the story sounds darker than the colourful aesthetic would have us believe.

The Outer Wilds launches on Xbox One, PC and PS4 next year.

In it, you play as a colonist taking on megacorps... or not. In theory, this should incentivize deeper role-playing.

In the trailer that made its debut moments ago at The Game Awards, Obsidian's new sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds is presented as the new game from the original creators of Fallout and the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. The team that created Fallout and developed Fallout: New Vegas could very possibly deliver a massive hit.

For now, you can keep track of the game's progress by checking out its dedicated Steam store page.
