"And if anybody wants to compete against me or fight against me, it's in the cage".

Rizin officials and the fighters were light on details of the fight, however, and two days later, after Mayweather returned to the United States, he wrote on social media that he had never agreed to the bout - even though he participated in the news conference and spoke about the event at length.

Mayweather confirmed the fight would be purely an exhibition bout, for entertainment purposes, rather than as a legitimate sporting encounter, and the ruleset has been adjusted accordingly.

The nine-minute exhibition in Japan will have no official victor or loser if it goes the distance, and Mayweather said at his training base in Las Vegas he was looking forward to the event as a chance to sample "something different". 'I love to do this.

Nasukawa is unbeaten in 27 kickboxing bouts and has also been speaking about the fight.

He trained with the former WBA lightweight world champion in Las Vegas ahead of facing Mayweather in Japan on New Years Eve. If I do fight in an MMA ring (it will be) boxing only.

Mayweather went on to say that if Tenshin's kickboxing instincts kick in on December 31, it will mean more cash in his pocket.

Nasukawa will be giving up plenty of size to the boxing legend, who most recently competed against UFC superstar Conor McGregor and moved to 50-0 with a 10th round TKO. I think that I'm the faster fighter.

A few days later, Mayweather issued a statement after returning to the USA that he was "blindsided" by Japanese officials and never meant to have an actual fight with Nasukawa. I'm going to use my weapons against him.

Nasukawa, meanwhile, is hoping to a make a big impression against one of the greatest boxers of our generation.

"I want to get the whole fight community, the whole country of Japan and the entire world involved in this fight".

Exhibition or not, the fight will be Mayweather's first outside of Las Vegas since he knocked out Sharmba Mitchell in the sixth round in November 2005 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
