Kevin Hart to Host the 2019 Oscars!

Kevin Hart to Host the 2019 Oscars!

The announcement came hours after trade publication The Hollywood Reporter posted a story calling the Oscars host position "the least wanted job in Hollywood". "To be able to join the legendary list of [hosts] that gave graced that stage is unbelievable". I mean, if nothing else, Hart hosting all but guarantees a Rock cameo during the opening monologue, right?

He then thanked his friends and family, before promising he would "be sure to make this year's Oscars a special one".

Hart clearly doesn't feel that way, writing on Instagram that he was "blown away" by the opportunity.

Twitter wasn't really sold on the idea of Kevin hosting the awards and some people said he wasn't "even funny". I appreciate @TheAcademy for the opportunity. now it's time to rise to the occasion.

Hart announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday, putting to end reports that producers of the show were having difficulty finding a host.

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show for the past two years, but previously said he will not be returning for a third year. "It would be great to say I had that moment". "The next step is to come here and host".

So, congrats to Kevin Hart for landing this gig!

ET caught up with him in 2016 at Health Fest where he once again shared his interest in taking the job, adding as he did today, that timing is everything.

Hart, 39, got his first big break after being cast in the Judd Apatow-produced television show Undeclared before heading to the silver in romps like Scary Movie 3 and Soul Plane.
