Los Angeles Sparks name Derek Fisher as new coach, report says

The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA have hired Derek Fisher as head coach, the team announced Wednesday.

Fisher helped the Los Angeles Lakers win five National Basketball Association titles during his 18-season playing career and served as president of the players' union.

Fisher, a five-time National Basketball Association champion player and former head coach of the New York Knicks, will be introduced at a news conference on Friday in Los Angeles.

The suit says the Woloshins rented the house a year ago after their home was damaged by Hurricane Irma, agreeing to pay $30,000 a month. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Fisher will officially be introduced at a press conference on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles.

When Jackson was hired by the Knicks, the former Lakers and Bulls coach called upon Fisher to be his head coach.

Fisher takes over a talented team led by two-time MVP Candace Parker.

Parker, who has been with the Sparks since 2008, said in a statement: "Derek is a great basketball mind who brings a ton of high-level experience to our team".

Fisher served as head coach of the Knicks from 2014 to 2016, during which he went 40-96 before being fired in the middle of the 2015-16 season.

He fills the void created when Brian Agler, who reigned in November after four seasons, including leading Los Angeles to the WNBA championship in 2016. He also won the 2010 championship with the Seattle Storm.
