The dog - who has his own Instagram account - was named after the airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who in 2009 landed a passenger jet on the Hudson River, saving all of the 150 people on board.

Former President George H.W. Bush passed away on Friday, but his service dog is still by his side.

"As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we're comforted to know he'll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41", the younger Bush wrote.

The casket carrying the body of George HW Bush is set to arrive in Washington on Monday afternoon, aboard the U.S. military plane commonly known as Air Force One.

"As one person said, he can do just about anything except make you a martini, but not to worry, he can go get you someone to make you a martini", Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said in June. "President Trump is scheduled to speak with President George W. Bush this morning and offer his condolences on behalf of himself, the first lady, and the entire country".

"A great joy to welcome home the newest member of our family, 'Sully, ' a lovely, and beautifully trained, lab from America's VetDogs".

Bush, who served a single term in the White House 1989 to 1993, will receive a state funeral Wednesday at the National Cathedral in Washington, followed by burial Thursday at his presidential library in Texas.

Soon after, he reached the height of his political popularity following the liberation of Kuwait, with public approval ratings that are the envy of today's politicians, the USA economy began to sour and voters began to believe that Bush, never a great communicator - something even he acknowledged - was out of touch with ordinary people. Wednesday has been designated by President Trump as a national day of mourning, and most federal agencies will be closed with federal workers given the day off. The crew has been tasked by Trump with carrying out "Special Air Mission 41".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Bush family during this hard time", said John Miller, president and CEO of America's VetDogs.
