Thousands of customers hit by O2 network outage

Thousands of customers hit by O2 network outage

"Our technical teams are working on the issue with high priority".

It has 25 million direct customers, but also provides services for the Sky, Tesco, Giffgaff and Lycamobile networks.

OUTAGE UPDATE 10.45am: One of O2's third party suppliers has identified a software issue in their system. "We are really sorry and working as hard and as fast as we can to fix this". But data connections are broken.

Even though you many not be on O2 yourself, this could still seriously affect your morning, because lots of connected devices rely on communication over the network.

"Our technical teams are investigating reports of issues when using data", O2 wrote on its status page.

The spokesperson added: "Voice calls are working OK".

Some users also suggested that SMS messaging might not be working, too, leaving them unable to send texts. "We apologise for any inconvenience".

O2 said it would share further updates as soon as they were available.

That page was also having issues at the time of writing and was intermittently failing to load.

CUSTOMERS WHO rely on the O2 mobile network are waking up to a whole crock of bork this morning, as a major outage affects customers on the United Kingdom number 2 provider and its dependencies.

The network outage has also affected Transport For London, which uses the O2 network for its electronic timetable displays at bus stops.
