It is odd though that some of the bigger YouTubers were not participating this year.

The video also never addresses some of the major issues with the platform, we haven't forgotten about the Logan Paul fiasco and the fact that The Thinning 2 was eventually released.

A user with username FeFe commented on the video, "This just shows that YouTube doesn't know what YouTube is all about". If you're looking to catch up on 2018's hottest memes and trends or relive your favorites, look no further. Although a good chunk of the video is rightfully devoted to Fortnite, there's no mention of PewDiePie and his subscriber war against T-Series.

Another YouTube Rewind 2018 snub would certainly be all of the controversy surrounding Logan Paul.

The link to view YouTube Rewind 2018 can be accessed here. The lack of these moments reiterates the divide between how the platform wants to be seen and the actual culture that creators participate in. It includes mainstream stars like Fortnite's Ninja, and some of YouTube's most notable creators who have worked in traditional Hollywood - Casey Neistat, Lilly Singh, and Liza Koshy.

Putting our criticisms aside for a moment, half way through the video the featured creators do highlight some important moments throughout 2018 that positively impacted our society. They work with big brands and big celebrities, and they represent the switch to a digital MTV that YouTube is trying to become. In past years, the list mixed viral videos with clips from shows like "The Late Late Show".

Though YouTube said its content creators "controlled" the direction of its roundup, the platform's community largely-and vehemently-disagrees.

"It is great to witness home-grown content and talents do exceptionally well in the list this year, and it proves that we are more than capable of creating great videos to engage audiences at home and around the region", she added.

YouTuber and Drama Alert host Daniel "KEEMSTAR" Keem took note of this disparity and did some research, revealing the video to be on par with one of the most disliked videos in history - the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer.
