Offering what sound like iterative updates in 2019 could prove to be a controversial decision on Apple's part.

The high-end model will include a triple rear camera for super sharp photos whilst others will have double cameras, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook recently collected his biggest-ever annual bonus for fiscal 2018 after his company posted record revenue and profit, and a market value that temporarily eclipsed $1 trillion.

The company's 2019 lineup will consist of a new LCD display iPhone with a dual-lens rear camera, a new OLED display iPhone with dual rear cameras and an OLED iPhone with a triple-lens rear camera array, says WSJ.

Sony last month said it was ramping up production of next-gen 3D sensors for mobile cameras after having received interest from manufacturing partners. Among other features, the LCD display lets Apple sell the XR at a lower price than the OLED-display-toting iPhone XS and XS Max. Meanwhile, Apple chose to troll competitors by placing user security and privacy-related ads around CES venues, and TV makers including Samsung announced that AirPlay 2 support would be available inside new TVs. "Beefing up functional value, like expanding camera features, isn't attractive because everyone else is doing the exact same thing".

As per the report, Apple is also planning to shift its display technology to OLED for the 2019 iPhone family of devices. This is a major upgrade now not only for the iPhone XS Max but also for the iPhone XR, the LCD model which comes with just a single camera.

The XR has struggled to take off since it was launched in October a year ago.

We haven't seen a treble-camera phone from Apple yet either, so the upcoming model will be its first. "Or, Apple might be under pressure to clean out its stock of iPhones", he said. It's possible that Haptic Touch will extend to all iPhone models if Apple gets rid of 3D Touch entirely.
