Billie Eilish Surprises Fans With New Song

Roma is not a movie aimed at Eilish's demographic, but here's Eilish with a Roma song anyway. "Having access to the sounds used in the film proved to be invaluable", she and O'Connell said in a statement.

While we wait eagerly for Billie Eilish to drop her debut full-length album, she fed us a steady diet of new singles in 2018 in the forms of "when the party's over", "Come Out and Play" and the Khalid-assisted "Lovely". The chorus has the ocean sounds overplayed on it. The movie is available to stream on Netflix, and follows a year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s. "We were also able to take sounds like the student protest shouts and Borras barking and turn them into rhythmic percussive elements to help drive the song".

Last Sunday, "Roma" won two Golden Globes, one for Alfonso Cuaron for Best Director and another for Best Foreign Film. With this release, Eilish lends her voice to help capture an important and emotional journey. Despite being mainly defined by her young age, her songs are surprisingly relatable to those outside of her teenage age bracket.

Eilish has released a video called "When I Was Older (Music Inspired by the film ROMA)" a sparse and simply attractive auto-tuned piece that features Eilish's lovely voice.

It establishes not just that Eilish can drum up some impressive, preternatural spookiness for a teen star, but that Cuarón has some skills of his own as a music supervisor, even at the point of post-post-post-production.

Billie Eilish teased the release to her 11 million fans on her Instagram account yesterday.
