Bumrah gets ODI, T20 break after Test heroics

In a release, the BCCI said: "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chose to rest India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand".

Bumrah recently starred for India in the historic Test series triumph over Australia.

Bumrah was rested "keeping in mind the work load of the bowler", according to a BCCI release, to give him adequate rest before the home ODIs and T20Is against Australia in February-March. "I was following India's great series win in Australia".

India ODI squad for Australia and New Zealand: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohammed Shami. Not only this, Siddarth Kaul has also been drafted into the squad for the three match T20I series against the latter.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in (BCCI) said Bumrah was rested and his place will be taken by paceman Mohammed Siraj.

Selectors will also have to ponder whether Nathan Lyon, another player back in the mix, is the right fit in an Australian XI that will be desperate to start the series well after a horror 2018.

Siraj has been top form with the ball in domestic cricket. Among worldwide batsmen, Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill have retained their third and 14th positions after scoring 281 and 153 runs, respectively, while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has dropped out of the top-10 to 11th position. He has ten wickets in his last two first-class games against Kerala and Hyderabad.

Virat Kohli´s team will now take on the hosts in three one-day internationals starting Saturday in Sydney, and then travel to New Zealand for a limited-overs series later this month.
