Burnley boss rubbishes Tarkowski transfer to Liverpool rumours

Liverpool are now in the midst of a defensive crisis with three out of four centre-backs- Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip already on the sidelines while Virgil van Dijk is also said to be suffering from a mystery injury.

The Croatia global has now joined England star Joe Gomez along with Joel Matip on the sidelines.

The 16-year-old became the third youngest debutant in Liverpool history when he made his debut against Wolves in the FA Cup and gave an excellent account of himself despite being on the losing team.

But the Clarets have instead slapped a £50million price-tag on the England global, which would make a short-term deal hard.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has branded speculation linking James Tarkowski with a loan move to Liverpool as nothing more than a "bizarre" rumour.

"Tarky has certainly had that many times and I think he's going about business very well at the moment".

"It's that time of the season, and everyone is looking for a snippet, but there is a lot of phantom stuff out there". Today, Liverpool are linked with James Tarkowski...

After slipping into the relegation zone, blighted by players out of form, Burnley manager Sean Dyche will be delighted that an upturn in fortunes have created a series of selection quandaries ahead of another big fixture against Fulham on Saturday.

Tarkowski has continued to be a regular for Burnley this season but they've struggled to replicate the form they showed previous year and it seems Liverpool were hoping to lure him to Anfield on a cheeky loan deal. And his stock has soared since the past year, with the defender breaking into the England squad in 2018.

Perceived logic is that three into one position doesn't go, and Dyche won't be able to keep all three happy - and Preston are believed to have asked about the possibility of taking the odd one out on loan, before signing Connor Ripley from Middlesbrough.
