Bus driver rescues young child

Irena Ivic saw the baby boy walking alone in freezing temperatures next to a busy road around 8 a.m., the Milwaukee County Transit System said.

A Milwaukee bus driver is being hailed for rescuing a baby girl found wandering alone one the streets of Milwaukee's south side - and the entire episode was captured on camera.

The child, who was less than 1-year-old, was barefoot and wearing a onesie and diaper, according to MCTS.

The video later shows Ivic stopping her bus, running across the street, picking up the crying child and carrying her to the bus. She scooped up the boy and carried him to the bus.

"Oh my God, I was so upset", she told KTLA sister station WITI in Milwaukee. Surveillance video from the bus shows Ivic's view of the boy as he ran over a freeway overpass.

Another passenger brought her jacket up to the front of the bus to help the boy warm up.

The baby girl was unharmed.

While Ivic waited for authorities to respond to the missing child, he fell asleep in her arms.

On Thursday afternoon, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and MCTS officials honored Ivic.

Police say the child had been left outside by his mother who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis. Officers later reunited the toddler with his father.
