Casilla closing in on Leeds United move

Casilla closing in on Leeds United move

Leeds United are flying high in the Championship under the management of Marcelo Bielsa, and things could be about to get even better for The Whites.

It has been an impressive campaign for Bielsa's men thus far, and things could be about to go from strength to strength in the January transfer window.

Leeds are still considering a January loan move for Arsenal's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez despite Real Madrid's Kiko Casilla appearing to emerge as the front runner for Marcelo Bielsa's No 1 position.

The Spaniard came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but failed to make an impression at first-team level during his first stint at the Bernabeu with appearances limited to the reserve ranks for the Spanish giants.

The 32-year-old hasn't featured for Madrid this season, after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois during the summer.

Casilla could become a Leeds player by next week and could be handed his first start away to Stoke City next weekend.

Madrid now have a flurry of talented goalkeeper in their ranks, including Zinedine Zidane's son Luca, so the departure of Casilla wouldn't exactly make much of an impact.

The former Spain worldwide made 17 appearances for Real last season, including their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Champions League group stage.

Some reports suggest he will undergo a medical with Leeds next week.

It seemed to work though, and that is all that will matter to Leeds fans, who are enjoying life with "El Loco" at the helm and remain hopeful of returning to the Premier League, 15 years after being relegated in 2004.
