Cesc Fabregas completes move to Monaco from Chelsea

The Spanish midfielder joins the Ligue 1 side for a fee believed to be between eight and ten million euros.

Despite Fabregas flying to Monaco to finalise the move on Sunday, Chelsea had been stalling on a deal until the club could find a replacement.

Fabregas put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stade Louis II after passing a medical earlier in the day, as he teams up with former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry on the Mediterranean coast.

"Cesc Fabregas has, today, completed a permanent transfer to Monaco", Chelsea said on their website, just as Ligue 1 Monaco tweeted a video of Fabregas with a voice-over saying "now it's time".

During 501 appearances in English football, he won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a League Cup.

Fabregas's departure from Chelsea sees him end four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge after he joined the Blues from Barcelona in 2014.

"Big goals and outstanding moments of quality, all backed up by the ultimate aim, which is to be part of a successful, trophy-winning team". "I'm here to help the team and I'm impatient to start".

Fabregas scored 22 goals for the London club in 198 appearances.

Cup matches have offered Fabregas the main chance to impress under Maurizio Sarri, with Jorginho's arrival in the summer forcing Fabregas down the pecking order in terms of midfield places.

Fabregas was previously Jorginho's deputy in the deepest midfield position, with the World Cup victor being the only other central player in our squad capable of dictating the play from that area of the pitch. "I am very excited", he added.
