Concept This Is Cadillac's New Electric Crossover

Concept This Is Cadillac's New Electric Crossover

The revelation came at the Detroit Auto Show.

The all-new three-row vehicle will be a part of Cadillac's popular crossover and SUV lineup. This will be the first model derived from GM's future EV platform.

For now, scope out the two images and stay tuned to as we update the site tonight and into tomorrow.

General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra told investors ahead of the show Friday that the company is working on an all-electric Cadillac.

Nissan's (7201.T-JP) luxury brand Infiniti announced all future models starting in 2021 will be "electrified", meaning either plug-in hybrid or all-electric as it rolled out the QX Inspiration at Detroit.

The EV's name and specific details regarding its powertrain and range will be revealed closer to an also yet-unspecified launch window.

"It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility", explains Cadillac president Steve Carlisle. The company plans to release a new model every six months through 2021.

It's also the tradition that Tesla followed, launching first a six-figure electric sports vehicle, then a large luxury sedan with a price starting at roughly double the average transaction cost of a new auto. It can also be transformed rapidly, for a "short design and development lead time", allowing the automaker to more quickly respond to changing consumer tastes. The Cadillac portfolio will eventually benefit from a variety of body styles that can be spun off this architecture.

GM said the batteries and drive units will be the most advanced in this platform.

The new platform will be flexible, and adaptable to front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations.
