Fans confused by tie at Critics' Choice Awards

The Favourite, which marked Dublin-based production company Element Pictures' third collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos following on from The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, is nominated for 14 Critics' Choice Awards.

Irish co-production The Favourite is continuing its awards season recognition, leading the nominations for the Critics' Choice Awards, which take place on Sunday.

"Roma" is the top victor at the Critics' Choice Awards, winning best picture, foreign language film and a pair of individual honors for director Alfonso Cuaron.

"Black Panther" and "Vice" each won three awards, including a pair of acting honors for Christian Bale for his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Colman, who did not attend the ceremony, picked up the best comedy actress prize ahead of fellow Brit, Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Blunt.

Mahershala Ali ("Green Book") walked away with a Best Supporting Actor win, while Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk") won for Best Supporting Actress.

Hollywood's award season was in full swing late Sunday, with Alfonso Cuaron's "Roma" - an ode to the director's childhood in 1970s Mexico City - the big victor at the Critics' Choice Awards.

While Black Panther didn't bring home the Best Picture award, the record-breaking film certainly didn't go home empty-handed.

"I accept this award as an encouragement to myself to be fearless enough to face and see myself, and by doing, hopefully, I can understand and see others, and ultimately I can help others to see themselves", she said.

Newton won best supporting actress in a drama series for her role in Westworld, while Rhys took home the male equivalent for The Americans.

"Maisel" tied for top television winners with three apiece.

Other fans were stoked that both actresses were recognised.
