It is impossible withdraw now, INEC tells Ezekwesili

A former presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili, has accused the party of playing politics with a transactional mindset that betrays her own personal values.

Durotoye, in a statement on Thursday, commended the sacrifice of the former minister, Oby Ezekwesili, who had earlier announced her withdrawal from the race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has turned down the withdrawal request of the Presidential Candidate of ACPN, Obiageli Ezekwesili.

Responding to her party's claims in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Friday morning, Ezekwesili said she had to "sacrifice her candidacy to uphold her values".

"The deadline for Ezekwesili or any candidate in that category to withdraw or be replaced has passed".

"Over the past three months, I have been in private extended talks with other candidates to make a coalition possible that would allow Nigerians to exercise choice without feeling helplessly saddled with the #APCPDP".

"She only pre-empted the decision we would have reached today which was to withdraw her candidacy and give to somebody else".

"We may take her to court".

The ACPN leadership, including Ezekwesili's running mate, Gani Galadima, shortly after at a press conference disowned her and announced they would be joining the campaign for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

He alleged that the former minister was just in the race to negotiate to be Minister of Finance and that she had kept the party in the dark about her real intention.

The ACPN National Chairman, Abdulganiyu Galadima, who doubles as the Vice Presidential candidate for the February 16 election at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja, said the party was withdrawing support for Ezekwesili and endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari's second term bid.

Galadima said the former minister did not show seriousness in her campaign.

"What the party and it's paid agents here on Twitter are doing to her reputation and mine is the reason why the country needs rescue but it will take men and women of integrity and courage and not cowards for hire to do so".

"I have been put to confidence by one of her aides, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji that she only wanted to use the ACPN platform to negotiate for appointment as Nigeria's Minister of Finance".

Galadima noted that Ezekwesili had no campaign secretariat, billboards or commitment on ground to indicate her seriousness. "We are aware of all the accounts she and her aides had opened for this election to which donations were made".

We also seek this medium to inform our former presidential candidate, Dr Ezekwesili, to return to the party all the property in her possession, especially the various donations that she has been receiving from all over the world. "That was over a month ago", Isamade said.
