Kanye West pulled out of Coachella over giant dome demands

Kanye West pulled out of Coachella over giant dome demands

Billboard's report says it was explained to West that such a dome would be impossible to build in four months and would require an intensive redesign of the entire festival site, including the removal of portable bathrooms. Well, that was pretty much correct because now the word is that West pulled out because Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett wouldn't construct a giant dome for him. The dome would be designed by West collaborator and set designer John McGuire. "These 40x60 stages are so archaic", a source said. With talks between Coachella parent Goldenvoice and West breaking down, Goldenvoice moved to have Ariana Grande replace the rapper at the head of the lineup. Braun had terminated his professional relationship with West in early December, Billboard has learned, marking the second split in 2018 between the mega-manager and the rapper.

Less than 24 hours after West dropped out, Ariana Grande was confirmed for the headlining slot on the festival's final night.

Kanye West is absent from this year's Coachella lineup due to a disagreement over his stage design.

The festival runs from April 12 through the 14th and April 19th through the 21st.

Tollett also told Los Angeles Times about the production impasse, but he didn't go into details about the giant dome or the part-a-potties.

The 41-year-old had reportedly complained that the main stage at Coachella was not big enough for his performance, but senior executives at the music event's promoter Goldenvoice dismissed his demands. They also pointed out that is one of the largest stages in North America. Billboard also reported that Coachella isn't the first festival West has pulled out of over the same last-minute dome idea, as he was nearly a headliner for Governers Ball in New York City before promoters turned down the request.

Pissed off, Kanye West reportedly reacted... not so well.
